Vol. 3, Issue 1 : Zion
The question of reality has been a topic among philosophers for hundreds of years. As time passes, our understanding of the world changes, and in turn our reality. Reality is based on perception, and our perception is based on our realities. One feeds off the other, and all we truly know is our own illusion of reality. Most live in the illusion and are content. Few question the world, and realize that there is something wrong. They don’t know what it is, but it is there, like a splinter in the mind, driving you mad. “Do you know what I’m talking about? Do you want to know what ‘it’ is?”. Experience the alternate reality of Zion.
“Behold. A dream did come to me in the night…” And a child shall lead them. The child prophet came to rid the small farming town of Gatlin, NE of its adults. The children of the small town congregated in the corn fields and obeyed the commands of their child prophet. On a sunny summer afternoon, they slaughtered every man and woman over the age of 18. In the name of their lord, ‘He who walks behind the rows’, they practice the first rites passage of adulthood by sacrificing themselves to the corn on their 18th birthdays.

The Vietnam War, a war Americans could not rationalize the U.S. involvement in. War protest grew into a social movement of unprecedented activism. The 1969 military draft lottery was not a lottery you wanted to win. It sent hundreds of thousands of rebellious youth to Vietnam to fight the war they were fighting against by means of protests and demonstrations in the streets of America. When arriving in Vietnam rebellious soldiers refused to fight in the war they didn’t understand. Anti-war tactics in practice at the highest level.

The hauntingly true tale of the radioactive patch of dirt we grew up in, called West Chicago. This is the true story of a small Chicago suburb built around an unknowingly radioactive thorium dump site. If you grew up in the mid 1980’s through mid 1990’s in West Chicago, you know the history of the city. You watched our yards get dug up, and our trees get cut down to remove the thorium buried all over town. We joke about being from a radioactive patch of dirt called West Chicago, but it is true.
